But the story had a less happy ending for N-S than it usually does. East led a diamond, declarer won and made the normal play of finessing trump through the opening bidder. The defense grabbed two more diamonds, the spade ace, and a spade ruff for down two.
Events took a different turn at the other table when jerrys1 decided on a conservative pass. He was no doubt surprised to hear his opponents zoom into 4.
