The 6-0 Fit
-or-
Through the Looking Glass

One of my favorite partners, Marilyn Hemenway (mhem on OKb) has a problem, she's support-challenged. It seems as though every time I open a suit and rebid it, dummy hits with a void! The good news is that it gives me a chance to practice my declarer play in the 6-0 fit.

The 6-cd suits we're talking about in this article, by the way, aren't ones like KQJTxx or AKJTxx. With those we can just draw trump and go about our business. The problem suits are ones with tenace positions and low intermediates, ones like: KJ9xxx, AQxxxx, or...the one in the diagram.

If we just start drawing trump, we'll probably lose three trump tricks, two clubs, and a heart for one in the soup. Is there another line?
