Could it be that for every ordinary play a declarer might make there's a corresponding Play Psych? An Evil Twin that looks exactly like the normal play but whose intent is to lead the poor defenders astray. Nah, there certainly can't be a Play Psych version of something as honest and simple and downright righteous as ducking the opening lead in a 3NT contract.
Or can there?
This hand is from Marvin Elster (aka magpie on Okbridge). Against the normal 3NT contract West led the spade deuce (4th best) to East's queen. There was a problem, a diamond had to be lost to develop a ninth trick after which the opponents might decide to grab a quick four heart tricks. Marvin attempted to sidetrack that possibility with an interesting play, he ducked the spade queen at trick 1! East led a second spade to the ace and when Marvin ducked a diamond to him at trick 3, he happily smacked down his third spade! Diamonds split 3-2 so Marvin soon did some smacking of his own and smacked down a claim for ten tricks!
