Who knows what evil LURKS in the hearts of men?
The Shadow knows!
The Shadow radio show started in 1937 with Orson Welles playing the Shadow. It continued until 1954, mostly with Brett Morrison as Lamont Cranston, aka The Shadow. You'd think that the actors and announcers who did the famous intro for The Shadow would emphasize the word evil, but curiously, the word they really hit hard was LURKS.
The Play Psych articles suggest that having a little evil LURKing in your heart might be a good thing when you're declaring a bridge hand. Counting the hands out, knowing all the squeeze and endplay positions, and wringing the last percentage point out of a line of play? All good things, but are they enough? If you play well and your opponents also play well the result could be a tossup. Maybe we should use some of that LURKing evil to try to make the opponents play badly.
West leads the heart queen. Most people would win the second heart, cross their fingers under the table, and start diamonds. Anything else?
