Glad you could make it. Are you looking forward, as I am, to the miracles that the 21st Century might provide? Do you have a vague sense of dread, as I do. at the horrors that the 21st Century may unleash? A hideous nightmare or a Golden Age, which will it be?
This book was originally written in 2003/2004, two years after 9/11 and just before we invaded Iraq. In early 2005, my wife Carolyn was diagnosed with ALS. She passed away in January of 2007. During those two terrible years I didn't so much as read a newspaper or a magazine, much less try to keep track of what was going on in the world, so when I uncovered Welcome to the 21st Century again it was almost as though someone else had written it.
The original did fairly well for itself. Some of the possibilities it mentioned occured during the missing years. Mostly bad ones like a hurricane hitting New Orleans and American Civil Rights being in jeopardy.
So...I'm going to add an intralinear to the original. The new sections will look like this paragraph. The original will stay as it was, including the parts that didn't work out, and even those that sound a bit silly in retrospect.
