Peter Davison was born Peter Moffett in Streatham, London on April 13, 1951. Peter Moffett used Peter Davison as a stage name because there was already a Peter Moffet who was an actor and director.
Davison had a better reputation as an actor than any of the previous Doctors and maybe any of the subsequent ones. His priimary role was in another iconic British TV show called "All Creatures Great and Small," but he had a wide and impressive resume. Davison signed up for a three year run as the Doctor. Reportedly, Patrick Troughton, who Davison had watched on the program as a teenager, had recommended to Davison that he leave the role after three years (worries about typecasting) and Davison followed his advice. Like Adric, here's another guy who grew up watching Dr Who on television and later became a member of the cast, in Davison's case the primary member. I wonder how many other TV shows, if any, can say that.
After his time as the Doctor was over, his career continued, but not at the blistering pace it had before the doctor. An interesting sidelight is that his daughter, Georgia Moffett, played the doctor's daughter in the story, "The Doctor's Daughter." Perhaps we'll see her again.
