Idris

Idris is quite a girl, well not just a girl, she's a woman on the outside but since all the enormous energy of the Tardis has been transfered into her body by HOUSE, the villian of the piece, she's a TARDIS on the inside, and more specifically, she's Dr Who's Tardis, the one he's been exploring the universe with for the past thousand years.

Why Idris/Tardis might be considered the Doctor's Wife comes out in their conversations. The doctor always claimed that he borrowed the Tardis from the Time Lords and was going to return it some day but Idris/Tardis says it was really her borrowing the Doctor and she had no intention of returning him! Idris/Tardis is older than the Doctor (We didn't find out how much) and she has much greater ability to examine and manipulate the near future than the doctor. There also was a cute little tiff where the doctor complained to Idris/Tardis that she was undependable, and that she didn't always bring him to the place he wanted to go. She replied that what she did do was always to bring him to the place he had to be. So...we have some love, we have some nagging, and we have a few little tiffs, sounds like a marriage to me.

Finally there's the name Idris. Islamic literature narrates that Idris was a prophet who possessed great wisdom and knowledge. Idris may also be a name for the Biblical character Enoch. Hmm, that could mean that our Idris was named after one of the old prophets,or it could be that our Idris WAS one or both of those old prophets four or five regenerations ago. Perhaps we'll find out.

At the end of the episode Idris/TARDIS/Wife returns to being part of the Big Blue Box, which makes you wonder how the Dr Who writers are going to pry her out of there for future episodes! Well, they'll figure out something.
